Types of Triangles

This page requires a Java capable browser.

Triangles can be grouped into three different types, based on the number of sides they have the same length.

The triangle shown starts with all three sides different lengths. Click the button that says "2 the same" to make the blue side change to be the same length as the red side. Then click the button that says "all the same" and watch the green side change to match the other two. Move the corners of the triangle around and try it again.

When you're ready, follow these links to explore some more about these three different types:

-> All three sides the same

-> Two sides the same and one different

-> All sides different

When you've looked at the three different types, check out some other triangle ideas.
